Deutsche Presse-Agentur: High temperatures and strong winds hampered firefighters Monday as they tried to gain the upper hand on southern California's first major wildfire of the season. More than 1,000 residents in the town of Sierra Madre were evacuated from 400 homes in the forested foothills on the outskirts of Los Angeles.
