"We have asked the government to increase the intake to eight per cent this year," said Vellu, adding that MIC is also monitoring the size of the intake of Indians in universities.
"Towards that end, I urge Indian students to send a copy of their university applications to the MIC headquarters," the NST Online quoted him, as saying.
He has also made the request to Higher Education Minister Khalid Nordin and has got a positive reply from Khalid who said that he would consider the party's appeal.
The intake of Indian students was 6.11 per cent in 2006, 5.6 per cent in 2005, 5.9 per cent in 2004, 5.2 per cent in 2003 and 2.7 per cent in 2002. (ANI)
